Bristol Festival of Photography is self-funding and run by volunteers. All money raised by the festival is reinvested in printing, advertising, gallery hire and other festival related expenditure.
In October 2009 we floated an idea to local galleries and interested parties – a simple series of independent exhibitions over multiple sites. The overwhelmingly positive response resulted in us pursuing the idea of a festival, with a target of twenty listings. For us, it was essential that the festival was accessible and open to all – everyone who listed an event was accepted. Seven months later the first Bristol Festival of Photography was held over three weeks in the summer of 2010, from May 20 – June 9. Far exceeding our original aims, the festival encompassed more than 95 stimulating and exciting exhibitions, talks, workshops and things to get involved in, at a wide variety of venues across the city of Bristol.
Following on from the success of this first festival, we decided to run BFOP on a biennial basis – we hope you enjoy BFOP 2012!
